Composting Generates Life Environmental Education Workshop
Do you really know what composting is, and what can or cannot be composted? Through this workshop, students will be able to put their creativity to work while learning some basic concepts about composting, such as its importance, how it works, and what can or cannot go into the composter. Learn how to transform organic waste into natural fertilizer with the Composting Generates Life Environmental Education Workshop. A hands-on activity from Living Place.
What is the Composting Generates Life activity?
The Composting Generates Life Environmental Education Workshop is an immersion into the biological cycle of matter. In this activity, we demystify the decomposition process and teach how to convert food scraps and garden waste into nutrient-rich compost. This initiative fulfills Living Place's commitment to promoting the circular economy and reducing waste that ends up in landfills.
Why learn how to compost?
Transforming ‘trash’ into life is one of the most powerful tools for protecting the environment. During this environmental education workshop, we covered:
Reducing the Ecological Footprint: How to reduce the volume of household waste.
Soil Nutrition: The difference between chemical fertilizers and natural compost.
The Composting Ecosystem: To learn about the living organisms (fungi, bacteria, and invertebrates) that do the work for us.
Who is this environmental workshop for?
The workshop is adaptable and ideal for various contexts:
Schools: Creation and maintenance of educational school gardens.
Families and Individuals: Practical solutions for those who live in apartments or houses.
Municipalities: Projects to raise awareness about community composting.
Benefits:
- For students: Children and young people will become true gardeners, learning how to transform food scraps into organic fertilizer and create a healthier and more sustainable garden.
- For teachers: Practical and educational activity that connects students with nature and addresses topics such as recycling, composting and sustainable agriculture.
- For school: Opportunity to encourage environmental awareness and care for the environment among students. The composting workshop is a powerful educational tool to transform future citizens into more conscious citizens.
Why is this Composting Generates Life project important?
- Awareness: Students will understand the importance of reducing food waste and composting as a sustainable solution.
- Action: Hands-on activities will inspire students to put composting into practice at home and at school.
- Knowledge: Students will learn about natural cycles, sustainable agriculture and the importance of caring for the environment.
Food waste is a global problem. With composting, we can transform these remains into a valuable resource for our planet. Imagine a world where organic waste turns into life, nourishing plants and gardens. With composting, we can build a greener and more sustainable future! Our workshop is adapted to the age group of the students and can be customized according to the school's objectives. We provide all the materials needed for the activity.
Year-round activity.

1 – What is the Composting Generates Life workshop and what is its purpose?
It is an educational workshop where students learn to transform organic waste (food scraps, leaves, branches) into natural fertilizer. The purpose is to demonstrate that in nature, nothing is lost and everything is transformed, teaching the biological process of decomposition and the importance of reducing the waste we send to landfills.
2 – What are the practical benefits of teaching composting in schools?
This activity allows students to understand the matter cycle in a tactile way. In addition to learning to distinguish what can and cannot be composted, they develop a critical awareness of household and school waste management, realizing how they can contribute to more fertile soils and healthier ecosystems.
3 – How does Living Place facilitate this activity with the students?
The workshop is hands-on and immersive, adapted to the age range of the participants. We use demonstrative materials to show how a composter works, the living organisms involved in the process (decomposers), and how the final compost can be used in the school garden or vegetable patch. It's an experience that combines biology, ecology, and citizenship.
